He was named the USA Today and Parade magazine high school player of the year in 1986. He was named a first-team SEC choice for 36 months and SEC Player of the Year, was a unanimous first-team All American, and finished seventh in the Heisman Trophy balloting. He was inducted to the University of Florida Athletic Hall of Fame as a “Gator Excellent” in 1999 along with the Gator Football Ring of Honor as well as the College Football Hall of Fame in 2006. Regarded as among the best and the single most complete running back in NFL history, he became the league’s all time rushing leader and broke the record held by Walter Payton.
